What Military Life Has Taught Me

I Am A Nigerian Army Wife

I can live on foreign soil because of my strength. I’m brave because I can care for myself when I’m sick or lonely. I can dry my tears because I know the cost of sacrifice. I can give support to my soldier because I have devotion. I can say goodbye when I don’t want to because I have the courage.

12 Things That Military Life Has Taught Me

Treasure James

  1. I’m the mistress because the military is the wife, and she gets all the damn attention!
  2. To be confident, bold, and strong – Being a military spouse has given me the strength to overcome and handle any roadblock that may come my way.
  3. To be flexible – Things happen that if you are not a military wife, you wouldn’t understand…Duty Calls.
  4. To have a sense of humor- Soldiers have a great sense of humor, which rubs off on anyone close to them, especially their spouses and kids. I don’t know if it goes with the job, but no matter how tense a situation is, the tension always reduces once a military man comes around.
  5. To be independent- I have learned to hold everything together when he’s away, which always makes life easier for us.
  6. To be grateful and treasure the time I get to stay with my hubby- There are many things you may take for granted if you were not a military wife, for instance, when your hubby is home for a day or two with the family. Military spouses don’t get that often. I am also grateful when he comes back safely from the operation area.
  7. To be able to hide the cracks when necessary.
  8. To dismiss tragedy.
  9. To be diplomatic – I have learned to patiently answer ridiculous questions since I became a military spouse.
  10. To make friends and know how to say goodbye to them either when they leave or when I leave.
  11. That friends come and go.
  12. To put my feeling and needs aside for the greater goal.
