Women are found in all spheres of life. In governments(Women In Power), Tech and Innovation, Arts, Sports, Medicine, Entertainment and Business(Entrepreneurs).

However, in our world today, very few organizations have recognized women.

According to Forbes, General Motors Company is one of the few global businesses that have no gender pay gap. GMC has ranked extraordinarily for its gender equality practices. For that, we thank you GMC.

In 1967, The United Nations officially recognized a day and started celebrating it as International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day which is marked on the 8th of March annually is meant to celebrate womanhood and recognize the importance of women and their contributions to society.

Here is a list of some women propelling the kind of future we want to be part of.

Dr. Jill Biden, First Lady(USA) – previously served as the second lady under the Obama administration

Jill has worked as an educator throughout her life. Her areas of interest as the second lady included working with and advocating for military families, highlighting the importance of community college education, and women’s issues ranging from breast cancer prevention and gender equality in the United States and abroad. For that, we thank you, Jill.

Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand

Jacinda entered the House of Representatives as its youngest member when she was 28years old. In 2017, at just 37years old, she became the youngest prime minister of New Zealand.

She has been praised for her administration’s quick and aggressive response to the coronavirus pandemic by issuing a nationwide lockdown and halting foreign visitation to New Zealand in Mid-March 2020. New Zealand is now considered to have the least mortality rate arising from the covid -19 pandemic (only 26 people have died from Coronavirus in the country).

Kathrin Jansen, head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer.

In March 2020, Jansen led a team of 650 experts, in collaboration with German startup BioTech, to develop a successful vaccine against COVID-19.

Shonda Rhimes, an award-winning television writer, and producer

Shonda Rhimes is a supporter and co-creator of the Times Up Movement, which seeks to promote gender equality at studios and talent agencies and to pressure lawmakers into introducing legislation that would penalize companies that tolerate persistent sexual or gender-based harassment. For that, we thank you, Shonda.

She is the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy“, “Scandal“, ” How to Get Away with Murder“, and “Bridgerton“.

Oprah Winfrey, best known for her Award-Winning talk show, “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Oprah has advocated for girls’ education across the world. She is an actress and has acted in famous Hollywood films such as “The Color Purple,” “The Butler,” and “Beloved.”

Oprah is the first black female billionaire and a generous philanthropist. Her Angel Network has raised more than $50million for charitable programs. For that, we thank you, Oprah.

Susan Wojcicki – Google’s sixteenth employee, CEO of YouTube

Wojcicki has contributed to the development of Google Images and AdSense as she rose up the ranks. She now leads YouTube which reportedly has more than two billion monthly users.

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook

Sandberg is the chief operating officer of Facebook and author of the best-selling book. “Lean In : Women, Work and the Will to Lead.”

Cynthia Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks

Cynthia is the first black woman to serve as the business leader of an NBA team. She’s an advocate for women’s rights and empowerment through her, “HASU” (Help A Sister Up), philosophy.

Serena is one of the most accomplished tennis players of all time. She has won 23 Grand Slam Singles titles and four Olympic gold medals for tennis. Serena is also a proud advocate for women and has won the most Grand Slam Singles titles of any man or woman in the Open Arena.

There are many, many more remarkable women I could have added to the aforementioned list but I could go on and on and there’s no better time to talk about some of the issues women face than on this auspicious day which marks and celebrates women worldwide.

This International Women’s Day, you can help create awareness about gender equality, women’s rights, and the political, socio-economic, and cultural challenges they go through. Let’s remember mothers, wives, trafficked women and survivors, women behind bars, women searching for entry-level jobs, women in male-dominated careers, women starting their own businesses, gender pay gap, underevaluation of work done by women, etc.

Women deserve the best and need every support to flourish. Remember, when you empower a woman, you empower a nation. We need your support and a VOTE for YES to women’s growth and development.
