Getting Kids Thrilled to go Back to School

Thank God for the gift of children and for protecting them throughout the long vacation. May God be with them as they go back to their various schools and all through the term. May they not encounter bad influences and may God be with all the ‘Mommas and Daddys‘ out there. I pray God provides everything they need to offset their children’s bills, Amen.

Is Your Child Terrified or Struggle to go back to school?

Back to school season is an exciting time for some parents especially the stay-at-home mothers or the work-from-home parents. It’s also an exciting time for some kids; but for others, this is a very hard and terrifying season.

Listening to 20 minutes of ceaseless crying and you can’t let them stay home or take them back home with you, it’s like…..Insanity. I bet you as a mother you will feel like crying too. The fact is kids cry harder and longer because they are trying to prove that what they are feeling is real.

They have enjoyed spending quality time playing with family, watching animations, movies, and waking up when they want ( My kids usually watch movies till late at night and wake up around noon the following day). You can’t really blame kids for the back-to-school anxiety they feel when faced with early starts, early bedtime, and routines again.

As a parent, you love your child so when you see your child hurting, you’d immediately want to fix the problem and erase the pain.

How to Respond to Back to School Anxiety

There are several things you can do to get your child excited to go back to school. These are some of the solutions that can work for you.

Show Excitement Yourself

Parents are life coaches. Lead by example and show excitement about the upcoming term. Don’t make negative statements about resumption, teachers, school, or studies.

Click their Brains into Gear

This is absolutely one of the best ways to help them focus. Whether it’s reading a picture book for the little ones, an educational book, or solving a puzzle. There are so many ways in which it could be done.

Buy New Stationery

Treat them to new stationery. It’s a fresh start, fresh session so get them new folders, pencils, rulers, pens, erasers, sharpeners, and pencil cases. Certainly, it will excite them and give them a fresh look.

Get New Clothing

Get new clothing for them like stockings, undies, and a new uniform if the old one is worn out or no longer fit. Try also to get new pair of school shoes, bags and lunch pack when necessary.

Spice up their Lunch Packs

Spice up their lunch box with healthy and tasty treats and don’t forget to add a fruit salad.

Enroll Your Child in Extracurricular Activities

Schools offer so many of these activities. I think it’s a good way to get your child excited about what he will be doing at school.

Don’t forget to seek your child’s opinion after all, he would be the one doing it. If he has no clue, then, go through the options together but in a situation whereby your child is too young to give an opinion, you can pick for him based on the kinds of activities he already shows interest in.
